Does gaming have a negative impact on your relationship?

Yesterday we read some topic about an Atari collector whose hobby was more important to him than his relationship. Obviously he broke up in the end. A female friend of mine reckons that gaming is purely for children and does not ever want to have a relationship with some guy in his 20’s that still plays games. We also know some women who actually love gaming (one of them is obsessed with Loco Roco).

My ex partner did not really approve of gaming and wanted me to spend less time in front of the LCD and more time with her. I guess in the end you have to compromise and balance things. Gaming however is really addictive and when you’re playing some lengthy RPG (Final Fantasy comes to mind) you don’t really want to be disturbed by some annoying partner. We’ve read some topics about people who actually divorced when the PS3 and Xbox 360 was originally launched.

The whole gaming in relationships debate varies from person to person and we're really curious to see what impact his has on different people. What is more important to you, gaming or your partner? Say for example the love of your life requests you to give up gaming altogether for the sake of the relationship, will you do it? You can invite your partner to join you with your gaming hobby but would it really resolve any problems? What if your partner simply hates games? We can imagine MMORPG games being the worst for relationships due to the time consuming factor.

Here are some interesting quotes we found online:

“All those hours online have affected my offline relationship. I don't think my boyfriend and I would be as good at solving real-world problems together if we hadn't practiced collaborating to solve so many in-game puzzles.”

“We've all heard the accusation that gamers are anti-social. Sometimes we respond angrily, other times we embrace the solitary geek descriptions. But social gaming provides an essential third place, where online friendships and teams might actually be helpful and healthy.”

“Open your partner to video games. While your partner may never get into Mario, Master Chief or anyone with the last name Belmont, you may still be able to introduce them to your digital world. Possibly show them some more middle-of-the-road games. If you’re on the other side and your partner is the gamer, explore the gaming world with them. Watch them play or ask them which game is their favorite and why. The more you two explore this wired world, the more you’ll have in common. It can’t come between you if you both understand it.”

“Keep your relationship first. Above all else, your relationship is the most important. If gaming is interfering with the relationship, curb it. If there’s too much time being spent playing games, resolve it. Remember that you’re both going to have to give and take, one will have to accept the video game world and the other will have to leave it more often.”

We also found this gaming vs. relationship test. So in the end, how does gaming affect your relationship. Feel free to comment your opinion.

rssHugger Review

Yeah this is totally off topic I know but I really wanted to chat about this site I found and it might even help you if you’re a blogger or similar.

I was actually wondering about getting people to know about my site (since there’s like a zillion PSP sites out there) and decided to do some Google hunting. That’s how I came across rssHugger (yes it’s spelled like that). These chaps basically have one goal and that’s to bring bloggers and readers together. It’s a very simple concept but not always such an easy task.

How you may ask? Well I write about them and then they “refer” back to me. It’s like a chain reaction if I may. The great thing about it is that it’s totally free so if you have a blog or whatever maybe you should visit rssHugger. You might just be surprised with the results.

Reikronian Blog

Mommy they stole my lunch money! Well this was usually the excuse if I needed some more lunch money (you can never eat enough Smarties). Thinking about my school days brings back a lot of great memories and some not so great memories (check out the Bully game on PS2 for more information)

I will honestly admit that most of the conversations we had at school was focused on gaming. At the time there was no internet to quickly check out game reviews but instead everybody walked around with good old fashioned magazines. I still remembered my first gaming orgasm when my dad connected up the NES console (Nintendo alert!) and gave me a cartridge with nothing other than Super Mario Bros. Well even though most of my school friends have grown out the whole gaming scene at least one still shares the passion (and the Sony brand…lol).

Reikronian is a blog created by my friend which mostly evolves around err…well lots of random stuff. If you are however a fan of Gran Turismo, cars and PS3 you might just find his blog quite entertaining.

Well I’m off to go Woo-Hoo on Sims 2 so check you later.
